FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) — About 200 high school students from across West Virginia are participating in the annual Governor's Honors Academy this week.

Fairmont State University is hosting the program for gifted students. The program began Sunday and runs through July 19.

Students will attend two classes each day. The morning class is related to the student's primary area of interest, while the afternoon class is outside that area of interest.

Fairmont State faculty member Dan Hollis is teaching a class on the First Amendment. He tells the Times West Virginian ( ) that classes are designed to challenge the students to think autonomously and creatively.
