WEIRTON - The annual Mardi Gras Gala was hosted at Williams Country Club on Saturday in an effort to raise funds for emergency utility assistance for local residents.
The event is organized by the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights each year in support of a local charity.
Rotary Club President Carole Scheerbaum said she thanks all the sponsors and all those who supported the 2011 Mardi Gras.

"We'd like to congratulate the Weirton United Way for all their efforts on behalf of the families who will benefit as well," she said.
According to Rotarian Jack Fowler, the final figures will not be in for another two weeks, but it is safe to say the event raised approximately $6,500 that will be administered through the Weirton United Way for the member agencies which offer utility assistance to area families.
"Thank you so much," said Weirton United Way Executive Director Kristin Bowman-Cross. "You have no idea how much your generosity is going to help the emergency utility assistance fund and those in need."
