WTOV-TV and the Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club West Virginia Chapter VI are teaming up for the third-annual Ride for a Reason Tri-State Poker Run on Sunday. The proceeds from the ride will benefit WTOV-TV's Coats for Kids program and the Red Knights Victims of Fire Fund. Last year's poker run raised more than $7,900 for these two programs.
The Coats for Kids program began in 1993 in conjunction with eight Ohio Valley Salvation Army units. In 2010, the program raised more than $35,000 to purchase coats for 600 children who otherwise would not have a decent coat in the winter season. The Victims of Fire Fund began in 2009 and has helped families who have suffered losses from fires to purchase clothing, food, lodging and any other essential need to help the victims through the trauma of fire loss.
This year's Poker Run will start at New Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department and wind through West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania on a 100-mile ride, ending at Krazy 'Bout Sportz on Weir Avenue in Weirton, with dinner and entertainment included.
Cost of the run is $20 for a rider and $15 for a passenger. Cars with passengers may also participate in the run. Anyone may participate in the dinner and entertainment for $10 for non-riders at the door.
Entertainment will be provided by Disc Jockey Chim Chim. A bike "Show-Off" contest will be held at Krazy 'Bout Sportz and will be limited to 15 bikes that register at New Cumberland Vol. Fire Department. There is no cost to enter the "Show-Off" contest.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. and all bikes out at 11:30 a.m. Pre-registration includes a ride pin and year bar and a $5 ride discount and can be done at www.redknightswv6.com or at Marsh Supply Company, located at 3070 Pennsylvania Ave., in Weirton until today.
