Summer reading, math instruction offered
WELLSBURG - The All For Reading Learning Center will be holding a summer program for children and teens with dyslexia or difficulties with reading or math, from Monday to Aug. 5.
Based at the former St. John School, the program will involve two 50-minute sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, said instructor Teresa Kowcheck who, with Cathy Hervey, have been certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading.
The two teachers have undergone two years of training in the method that is geared to students' various senses and has been found to be successful with children with dyslexia but can be helpful to all children, Kowcheck said.
Caitlin Kocher, a recent graduate of Marshall University who will be entering West Virginia University medical school, also will be available as a math tutor.
Parents interested in registering their children should call (304) 914-7471 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org by Saturday.
