WEIRTON - A rollover accident on U.S. 22 Thursday afternoon left one woman in the hospital and traffic backed up after an SUV collided with a tractor trailer.
Emergency crews responded to the call around 3:45 p.m. where they reported a female driver of the SUV cut off a tractor-trailer and struck it. Police said a medical crew treated the woman at the scene and transported her to a hospital as a precaution.
Weirton firefighter Gary Hosstuttler said Engine 3 responded to the call, which initially said the vehicle was on fire; however, he said there was no fire and there was no entrapment.
He said it appeared the woman attempted to move over into a lane of traffic and swerved and hit the semi truck causing the vehicle to roll.
"She (the driver of the SUV) was already out of the vehicle when we arrived on scene," he said.
According to Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad crews, the patient was transported to Weirton Medical Center via Brooke County Ambulance.
The call was handled by Weirton Police, WAARS, Brooke County Ambulance Service, Follansbee Volunteer Fire Department and the Brooke County Sheriff's office.
The truck driver was not injured and it was not immediately known if the woman will be cited.
