It's only fair

To the Editor,

Responding to Steve Kopa's "An Issue of Forgiveness," detailing the sexual sins of the much-married Newt Gingrich; I have no love for Gingrich, but fair's fair, and aren't liberals all about fairness?

Let's discuss sexuality and presidential politics.

Bill Clinton; John Edwards; the Brothers Kennedy; FDR.

All six, revered Democratic Party icons; Gingrich isn't viewed with anything near this esteem. I can't think of more than a couple presidents Republicans revere; Lincoln? Reagan? Perhaps Eisenhower?

FDR's paramour, Lucy Mercer, served as his wife Eleanor's secretary from 1913-1918 when, presumably, Eleanor discovered the affair. Mercer was with FDR in Georgia on the day he died, in 1945.

John and Bobby Kennedy - both married to beautiful women - shared Marilyn Monroe, among others.

JFK, as we know, had a long and varied history of extra-marital involvements, one of which, besides Monroe, was with Judith Campbell Exner, the girlfriend of Chicago mobster Sam Giancana, and who served as messenger between the two.

Both Kennedys are venerated today, as paragons of the party.

Ted Kennedy accidentally killed a young woman with whom he was likely trysting, and to the day he died, refused to confess. He, like Bobby, later ran for president.

Clinton. Numerous "bimbo eruptions," Jaunita Brodderick's charges of rape, Paula Jones, and last but certainly not least, Monica Lewinsky.

The libbies idolize Clinton, though, even the most radical of feminists, and blandly ignore and dismiss his blatantly misogynistic behavior.

Ironically, the Feminazis love Bill Clinton, almost as much as they loathe Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman, two strong, independent women whom, logical reasoning would seem to dictate, they should respect and admire.

But then, when is liberalism ever logical?

John Edwards impregnated a young campaign worker, then, as his wife lay dying of cancer, he presented her with divorce papers. Enough said, there, I'd think.

More recently, Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain was crucified, not for something he definitely did, but merely for something of which he was accused. However, because he was a Republican, that was enough to destroy his career. That's the way it is. Any allusion to sexual misconduct is detrimental to Republicans. But once again, for Democrats, it's just different, and it's been this way for years.

Twenty-five years ago, Barney Frank's boyfriend ran a homosexual "escort service" out of Barney's apartment; what happened? Not much. Let's try to imagine for a moment, a Republican getting away with such an infraction. Yet, there was good old Barney in 2005, reassuring us how much black ink there was in Fanny and Freddie.

Democrat Anthony Weiner's fall from grace was a rare exception, possibly owing to the fact that he was reputedly a complete, vulgar jerk and a bully, who was loathed by virtually everyone except Nancy Pelosi, who used him as an enforcer.

Now, I'm sure Mr. Kopa looks upon his own party's perverts, creeps, philanderers and womanizers with the same sense of scorn and haughty smugness that he does the Republican Party's.

After all, that's only fair.
