PHILLIPS, William Charles "Bill," 88, of Follansbee, W.Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Valley Hospice Care North in Steubenville, Ohio.
He was born on Aug. 18, 1923, in West Union, W.Va. He was a son of the late Glenwood and Mary Agnes (McIntosh) Phillips. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Tanya Ash, brothers, Mack and Robert Phillips, and a sister, Betty Higdon.
He was a navy veteran of World War II.
Bill retired after 32 years as a Diesel Locomotive Engineer with both Weirton Steel Corporation and National Steel Corporation. He was Christian by faith.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ramonetta (Gain) Phillips whom he married on June 21, 1947, his two children, Sharon Michaelsen of New Cumberland, W.Va., and William C. (Trudy) Phillips, II of Brilliant, Ohio, a brother, Marvin (Carol) Phillips of West Union, W.Va., four grandchildren, Marci (Scott) Hughes, Allen (Amelia) Michaelsen, Jolie (Eric) Koyner, and Shay, Michaelsen, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Friday, Feb. 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home 669 Main St. Follansbee, W.Va., where services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Harry Knight officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Johns Cemetery in Colliers, W.Va.
Full military honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
