April 11, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

On April 10, 2012, at 8:15 a.m., her heavenly father sent his angels to bring Dixie F. Leedy, home to his loving arms, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 1, 1939, in Highlandtown, Ohio, she lived the majority of her life on the very road she was raised on.

An avid reader, Dixie dearly loved her family. Known for her giving personality, she thoroughly enjoyed opening her home to others and providing for their needs.

She was a devout follower of her Lord Jesus Christ and faithfully served down through the years as secretary of the board, Sunday school teacher and director of numerous Vacation Bible School programs. A gifted musician, she enjoyed playing the piano at the church she regularly attended.

Dixie was a member of the Irondale Church of the Nazarene and during the past few years was attending Grant Hill Presbyterian Church where she grew up. She was a faithful attender and supporter of Hollow Rock Camp Meeting, whose open door hospitality was recognized by everyone.

Dixie was a 1957 graduate of Irondale High School. A retired educator in the Edison Local School District, she received her bachelor's degree from Kent State University and master's degree from the University of Dayton.

She is survived by her grade school sweetheart and beloved husband of 53 years, Dr. Chuck Leedy, and her two sons, Chris Leedy of Canton, Michael Leedy and his wife, Karilynn, of Hammondsville; and one granddaughter, Nicole Leedy of Canton, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Barker; and mother, Martha Sprague.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 13, at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St., in Wellsville with Rev. Tim Ginter officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, April 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
