KIRKLAND, Sarah J. 84, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away Sunday June 24, 2012 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.
She was born July 5, 1927 in Steubenville, OH, a daughter of the late Lewis and Ethel (Homan) Shively.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Kirkland; a son, Gary Kirkland; a daughter, Barbara Kirkland Pettit; a brother, Charles Shively; a sister, Vera Lenart; and two granddaughters, Cynthia Lawrence and Stephanie Kirkland.
Sarah was a ward helper at the former Ohio Valley Hospital retiring after 35 years of service. She was also a member of the Georges Run United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her three children, Sandra Everhart of Charleston, SC, Linda Shock of Cleveland, OH and Robert Kirkland of Mingo Junction; a brother, Robert (Mary "Tootsie") Shively of Mingo Junction; a sister, Alberta Miller of Weirton, WV; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In following with Sarah's wishes private services were held on Wednesday at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant with Pastor Jimm Woods, officiating. Private interment followed at New Alexandria Cemetery.
