WEIRTON - The Mary H. Weir Public Library will be closed today in observance of the holiday, but the Weirton Area Literacy Council will hold a book sale 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today on the library's front lawn. In addition, there will be Scrabble games and sand art.
Graduate Equivalency Diploma classes will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuedays in July and classes and online test preparation will be held from 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
A tour of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center will be held at 2 p.m. July 21 for Library eBook Accessibility Program volunteers, tutors, students and their families.
The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center also will hold an "Ice Cream Social With 'Rosie the Riveter'" July 19. The museum will celebrate women workers on the home front during World War II. To make a reservation, call Pam Makricosta at (304) 797-8510.
The family literacy picnic will be at 5:30 p.m. July 25 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds on Kings Creek Road. The Literacy Council will provide chicken and bread. Those attending are asked to bring flatware, side dishes, fruit or desserts. To make a reservation, call Makricosta at (304) 797-8510.
There will be a tour at the Festival of Nations Aug. 18 for LEAP volunteers, tutors, students and their families.
Movie and ice cream social set
WELLSBURG - The Friends of the Brooke County Public Library will present an ice cream social and movie, "War Horse," at 1:30 p.m. July 11 at the library.

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will present a story hour featuring not-so-scary monster tales, crafts and games at 5:30 p.m. July 12.

Church hosts
'Night Out'
WEIRTON - There will be a Christian Coffee House "Ladies Night OUt" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 13 at the Marland Heights Community Church located at 3900 Bright Way.
The Hawaiian Night-themed event will incorporate various coffee house locations and will include food, desserts and beverages. Free childcare will be provided for children in preschool through fifth grade.

Golf outing will benefit Oak
Glen High School football
NEW CUMBERLAND - The Jerry Barnhart Memorial Golf Outing will be held July 28 at the Woodview Golf Course.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the shotgun start is 8 a.m.
The cost is $280 for a four-person team and includes carts, breakfast, lunch, dinner and beverages. There will be hole prizes, door prizes and raffles. The events benefits the Oak Glen High School football team.

Autism network will hold meeting
WEIRTON - The Ohio Valley Autism Network Support Group will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Weirton Medical Center's Starvaggi Board Room.
