WMC to hold physicals

WEIRTON - Weirton Medical Center will offer free physical exams to students of Weir High School, Weir Middle School, Weirton Madonna High School, St. Joseph's, St. Paul's, Oak Glen High School, Oak Glen Middle School, Brooke High School, Follansbee Middle School and Wellsburg Middle School on July 21.

The times are: Brooke schools from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; Weir schools and Madonna, St. Joseph's, St. Paul's from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; and Oak Glen schools from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The physicals will be given in the Atrium Lobby of Weirton Medical Center. Parents may accompany their children and wait in the cafe area. Students must bring the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physician's Certificate Form, which must be completed and signed by a parent (Part II and Part III).

The form can be obtained from the student's school. Only one form per student is necessary. Forms will not be available on July 21. Students who do not have the form completed and signed by a parent cannot have a physical.

Advance registration is not required. The physicals are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The physicals are good for the school year even if the student participates in more than one sport.

Free parking is available in the front of the medical center. Use the main entrance and follow signs to the school physicals registration table.

Football officials to hold class

STEUBENVILLE - The West Virginia-Ohio Football Officials Association will hold classes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Monday and Thursday from July 23 to Aug. 29 at Eastern Gateway Community College. The class will be conducted by a certified instructor and a team of veteran officials.

The class will qualify officials to work in Ohio and West Virginia. Cost of the class is $107 to cover Ohio registration of $65 and West Virginia registration of $42. In addition the WVO Board waives first year association dues for trainee officials. After successful completion of the classroom and field work training the new officials will be expected to work below varsity games and attend association meetings offered each week for continuing training of all officials.

Edison to hold volleyball camp

RICHMOND - The Edison Volleyball camp will be held July 23-26 at the high school for grades 9-12 (8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.), 7-8 (9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.) and 4-6 (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) Camp fee is $30 and players may sign-up at the door.

Cadiz grabs a victory

NEW?PHILADELPHIA - Cadiz Post 34 scored five times in the top of the second inning to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead and an eventual 8-7 victory over Tusky County Thursday on the road.

Cadiz raised its record to 12-16 and will host Wayne County for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday before the District 10 tournament begins Monday.

Josh Sokolowski, Nick Pelegreen and Rhett Kuryn all singled for Cadiz.

Pelegreen was the winning pitcher.
