From staff reports , Weirton Daily Times

WEIRTON - The city of Weirton's annual Fall Cleanup has been scheduled for Oct. 1 through Oct. 5, according to city officials.

The Cleanup Week pickups for household goods will be scheduled on the same day as residents' regular garbage pick-up day.

Residents are advised to have their items placed on the curbside before 7 a.m. If crews have to return to an area, the resident will be assessed a fee.

During Cleanup Week, city crews will collect household goods. Items such as construction materials, vehicle tires or parts, tree trimmings and brush, propane tanks, air conditioners, paint, oil, antifreeze and hazardous materials will not be collected.

The city will accept electronics, however, they must be separated from the regular household items.

In addition, a Metal Items Collection Day has been scheduled for Sept. 28, during which time crews from the Public Works Department will only pick up metal items throughout the entire city from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Items being accepted on this day include stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, hot water tanks, metal shelving, bicycle frames and old railings.

Recyclable materials will not be collected during Cleanup Week. Collection will resume on the next scheduled recycling week, officials said.

City officials also note they will be enforcing an ordinance which prohibits scavenging of garbage or other items during Cleanup Week. Individuals cited can be fined between $5 and $500, or could face jail time.
