CAMERON - With a little more than a minute remaining in the first half, Weirton Madonna was looking for the knockout blow but the Cameron defense was up to the task.
Or so it looked.
On a third-and-7, Blue Dons quarterback Ross Comis attempted to scramble, only to have the pocket collapse on him. Despite what looked like a sure sack, Comis avoided the pressure, leapfroged over left tackle Quintin Hukill, cut to his right and went 46 yards for a touchdown and a 33-14 lead.
LOOKING FOR MORE — Weirton Madonna’s Elliott Nero, who returned a punt for a touchdown, looks for a hole during Friday’s 60-14 victory over host Cameron. Nero also ran for two scores.

It was that kind of night for Weirton Madonna in a 60-14 drubbing of Cameron on Friday at Dragon Stadium.
''It was pretty crazy,'' Comis said. ''I was getting pressured and I was just trying to get out of there. Quintin was down on the ground so I jumped over him and I saw a little daylight. My receivers did the rest by blocking downfield.''
Added Madonna coach Doug Taylor: ''I just told the kids that Ross learned how leapfrog. He is just an athlete and (Friday night) was a big night for Ross Comis.''

Comis rushed for 124 yards and a score, while also throwing for 120 and touchdown passes to Garrett Hypes, Marcello Biondillo, and Tyler Ewusiak.
His exceptional night almost overshadowed that of teammate Eliott Nero.
After Cameron cut the deficit to 14-6 in the first quarter following a Devin Starcher 9-yard touchdown run, Nero took the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a 20-6 lead.
Nero rushed for 126 yards and two scores to go along with the kickoff return.
''That is a good football team and I don't see them losing them to anyone else the rest of the year,'' Cameron coach Jim Rogers said. ''We missed three opportunities to score in the first half when we were moving the football.
''We tried to come up with some defenses that would slow them down. The first quarter, I thought we played pretty darn good football. But we don't have the confidence yet if something goes wrong. We just aren't there yet but that doesn't mean we can't be there.''
Hunter Yoders scored on a 5-yard run midway through the second to make the score 20-14, but following another good return by Nero that put Madonna in good field position, Comis hit Ewusiak from 14 yards out to make it a two-score game again.
The Blue Dons defense got to Cameron quarterback Logan Routt six times and limited standout receiver Mark Walker to three catches for 31 yards.
Hypes added a 41-yard punt return for a score in the third quarter to end any hopes of a Cameron comeback. Reserve quarterback Anthony Antinone scored a late touchdown to complete the scoring.
''It's important for us to answer a score whether it be special teams or a long drive,'' Taylor said. ''I think the kids took it to heart. They did a really good job.''
