STEUBENVILLE - After playing to a 1-1 tie through the first half with cross-town rival Steubenville Big Red, the Steubenville Catholic Central girls soccer team controlled the second half to claim a 3-1 victory Thursday at Harding Stadium
The Crusaders (7-6-1) scored their first goal when Carly Abraham found the back of the net on a Maria Boston pass. Boston put in Central's second and third goals with the first off a Katie Irvin assist, and the second being unassisted. Goalkeeper Moriah Vosteen had seven saves.
Big Red's goal came on an Allie Zimish penalty kick. Loren Gray turned away 12 shots.

Brooke tops Magnolia
WELLSBURG - The Brooke volleyball team defeated Magnolia 21-25, 25-17, 13-25, 25-21, 15-13 Thursday at the Brooke Athletic Complex.
Samantha Mazzone had 21 assists, seven digs, three kills and two aces for the Bruins, with Brooke Murdoch adding five kills and 11 assists, Amber Isinghood eight kills and seven aces, Isabella Preston nine kills and six digs and Emiley Stuck two kills and 21 digs.
Angela Staffileno contributed with 17 kills, 13 blocks and three aces, with Kourtney Leonard adding seven kills, two blocks and three aces.
Brooke (2-15) hosts Oak Glen Monday.
Red Riders blank Patriots
WEIRTON - The Weir High boys soccer team blanked visiting Wheeling Park 2-0 Thursday at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
Providing goals for the Red Riders were Shane Davis and Alex Hannah. Kenny Muhart and Jonathan Fedoush each had an assist. Goaltender Matt Tenaglio turned away seven shots to earn the shut out.
Ryan Seidawitz saved 16 shots in goal for the Patriots.
Weir (12-2-2) hosts Ravenswood Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Llewellyn lifts Big Red
NEW PHILADELPHIA - The Steubenville Big Red boys soccer team picked up a 2-1 win at New Philadelphia Thursday on a late goal by Brandon Llewellyn.
With two minutes remaining, Llewellyn put in a rebound off a Dom DiCarlo shot to give his team the victory. Stefano Lanni scored Steubenville's first goal and John Paul Duff saved 15 shots in goal.
Graham Sabo scored the Quakers goal with goalie Jared Ley saving eight shots.
Red Knights swept
TORONTO - The Toronto volleyball team lost 25-7, 25-16, 25-14 to Southern Thursday.
Cari Horne had three kills and two digs, Taylor Linn had five assists, Katie Spadafora had three kills and Shane Sears had two digs.
"I'm not disappointed in these young women at all," said Toronto head coach Chelsey Fletcher. "They played very hard against a very good program. We have had two extremely long weeks with the amount of games we played last week and homecoming week this week.
"They are wore out. We will come back rested for senior night on Tuesday against Bishop Donahue."
Redskins beat Red Riders
WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek volleyball team defeated Weir High 25-16, 25-13, 25-10 Thursday.
The Redskins (16-2) received three aces, five kills and seven digs from Whitney Martin, with Ali Collaros adding three digs, Mallorie Sullivan two aces and four digs, Bre Berryman six kills and three blocks, Kiarra Kamarec four kills and Alexis Fithen one kill and one block.
Jessica Furda had 16 assists, three aces, two kills, two blocks and eight digs, while Brey Mays had seven aces, four kills and five digs.
Edison wins in five
RICHMOND - The Edison volleyball team defeated visiting East Liverpool 20-25, 25-20, 25-13, 21-25, 15-13 Thursday.
"We didn't have our best game, but it's always nice to win even when you don't play your best," said Edison head coach Leah Snyder. "I'd like to give those E.L. girls credit, though. They played hard."
For Edison (13-6) Kylie Smith had 10 points and seven digs with Katie Davidson adding 19 assists, eight points, three kills, six blocks and three digs. Hannah Johns had 11 points and three kills, Alexis Gill had six kills and three blocks, Victoria Freeland had three digs and Maddie Williamson had three kills.
Katelyn Pollock contributed five points, two aces, 22 kills, and three digs with Caitlin Brenstuhl adding 31 assists, eight points, two aces, nine kills, three blocks and five digs. Cassady Jarvis had six points, four aces, four kills, and 10 blocks.
Oak Glen sweeps Central
NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen volleyball team swept Steubenville Catholic Central 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 Thursday.
The Crusaders received two kills and three blocks from Rachel Antonelli, three kills and seven blocks from Monica Rigaud, two kills and three blocks from Rachel Rigaud, 29 assists from Jenna Ogden and 39 assists and two points from Robyn Runkel.
Monica Fischer had three kills, two blocks, and two points with Maddy Gulan adding seven kills and nine blocks, Tori Knight three kills and three blocks and Kamy Belardine two aces and four points
Big Red claws Panthers
RAYLAND - The Big Red volleyball team swept Buckeye Local 27-25, 25-18, 25-22 Thursday.
Big Red saw Abby Taylor contribute seven points, 11 kills, 13 assists, four digs and two blocks, with Taylor young adding nine points, 10 kills, 12 assists, and nine digs.
Annie Nehrbas added 11 points, six kills, and two blocks; Mytia Barker six points, three kills, and 14 digs; Brittany Bodo seven points and two assists; Carmie Biasi 11 digs and two points; and Kayla Crites three kills.
The Panthers received seven digs and four kills from Amy Balk; five points, three digs, seven kills and 10 assists from Becca Rector; two digs and five kills from Kayla Fillipovich; 15 digs from Kaylee DeCesare; nine points, four assists and four digs from Lex Fedorko; three points and two kills from Moe Fedorko; six points, two aces, five digs, two kills and two assists from Morgan Staten; and five points, two aces, six digs and two kills from Preslie Renforth.
