Oak Glen defeats Brooke

WELLSBURG - The Oak Glen volleyball team defeated Brooke 25-16, 25-12, 25-14 Monday at the Brooke Wellness Center.

The Golden Bear got nine points and seven assists from Sydney Kell; 11 kills from Vanessa Hissam; and 10 points, four kills and five blocks from Morgan Poling.

Lacee Porter added nine points and four kills, Abby Tice four digs and nine points; Jessica Stivason eight kills; Jessica Hutton one kill; Kaitlyn Smith four points and four digs; Carissa Williams seven points and two assists; and Madison Juszczak one kill.

For the Bruins, Samantha Mazzone had seven assists; Brooke Murdock had four assists and two aces; Amber Isinghood had three kills; Isabella Preston had seven kills; Angela Staffileno had seven kills and seven blocks; Emily Stuck had 11 digs; and Kourtney Koscezic had three blocks.

Redskins win in five

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek volleyball team came back from two sets down to defeat New Philadelphia 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-7 Monday.

The Redskins (17-2) saw Whitney Martin contribute nine kills, nine blocks and 22 digs, with Ali Collaros adding 15 digs, Mallorie Sullivan adding 11 digs, Brey Mays adding five kills and 22 digs and Kiarra Kamarec adding two aces and 13 blocks.

Bre Berryman had 18 kills, seven blocks and three digs; Alexis Fithen had six kills, three blocks and four digs; and Jessica Furda had 35 assists, four aces, four kills, five blocks and 15 digs.

Madonna tops Indian Creek

MINGO JUNCTION - The Madonna girls soccer team beat Indian Creek 6-2 Monday.

The Lady Dons took a 4-0 lead on the strength of a Christina Conforti goal followed by a hat trick by Rachel Grubbs. Rachel Grubbs assisted on the Conforti goal with Mia Antinone, Gaby Kotten and Alayna Macaluso assisting on the Rachel Grubbs' goals.

The Redskins cut the lead in half with an unassisted goal from Amber Travis followed by a Melissa DeFallo goal assisted on by Amber Bennett that made the score 4-2.

Madonna closed things out from there with an unassisted Leanne Grubbs goal followed by an Anna Westfall goal off Macaluso's second assist.

Madonna used two keepers with Amy Davis saving four shots and Tessie Tokash saving five.

Redskins goaltender Kristen Shimko had 16 saves in defeat.

Bruins stop Knights

WELLSBURG - The Brooke girls soccer team defeated Wheeling Central 5-2 Monday at the Brooke Athletic Complex.

Brooke received a hat trick from Michaela Hinerman with Lauren Altobel and Kameron Miller each adding a goal. Shelby Cronin and Cheyanne Hudson each had a pair of assists with Haley Dalton adding an assist as well. Marena Cline had three saves in net.

The Maroon Knights received goals from Asten Matlock and Ashton Cross with goalie Regan Blaha adding 10 saves.

The Bruins (10-6-2) play at Edison today.

Big Red to host Pink Out

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Big Red boys and girls soccer team, Key Club and Football Moms will sponsor a Breast Cancer Awareness doubleheader Thursday, hosting Carrollton High School at Harding Stadium.

They will be collecting donations at the front gate as well as holding a 50/50 drawing at halftime of the second game. The Big Red Football Moms will also donate a portion of the concession stand proceeds.

The Big Red Key Club, along with the Target Shop of Steubenville, has provided special T-shirts for the teams to wear during the game. The boys game will begin at 6 p.m. and the girls game will immediately follow.
