Come out and be inspired

To the Editor,

Incredible! That was Robert Haworth, art teacher at Weir Senior High School from 1932 to 1969. His ability to inspire young men and women to achieve in the field of art is unbelievable. He worked with first generation outstanding football players and other students at the school and instilled in them a lifelong appreciation for the grandeur of art. So many of his students have won national and international awards for their work, like Virgil Cantini, Anthony Sellitti, Harry and Bill Ameredes, Mitchel Sagan and William Zdnak.

I wish that we could find that "special something" he had and inoculate everyone with it.

What he did was amazing. Mr. Haworth has a true legacy in the Ohio Valley through his students and now many of their children. His legacy of artists, "A" through "Z" - Ameredes to Zdnak - were inspired by this high school art teacher.

I encourage everyone to come to the fourth-annual Robert Haworth Memorial Art Exhibition sponsored by the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday, October 20 from noon to 4 pm.

In addition to this year's featured artist, Mary Ann June, art of Haworth students and current local art students will be on display.

Come and be inspired by the Haworth legacy!
