CHESTER - Jockeys, trainers, owners and employees at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort will donate a portion of their earnings to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia on Nov. 3 as they Race for Wishes.
Post time for the first race is 7 pm.
Races for Wishes is a night of exciting horse racing dedicated to raising money to provide wishes to children 2 to 18 years of age with life-threatening medical conditions.
The fourth race will be named in honor of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia. There will be a special presentation following the fourth race in the winner's circle. Wish children from Brooke and Hancock counties will be on hand to cheer on the horsemen who have pledged to share the power of a wish.
"Races for Wishes will allow the jockeys, trainers, employees and owners to join forces to provide a moment of joy and happiness to children in our area who are suffering from endless medical procedures and long hospital stays by raising money to make their wishes come true," said Jana Tetrault, chairperson of the Wish Upon A Star Gala. "This is going to be a night where the community can come out to Mountaineer and enjoy a great night of racing and cheer on their favorite horses as they Race for Wishes."
"We are proud to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia with an exciting event where the community can come together and support the horsemen as they Race for Wishes." said Rosemary Williams, director of racing at Mountaineer. "Last year we raised enough money to provide a wish for a local girl. We hope to continue that tradition!"
Proceeds from the Races for Wishes event will be presented at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia's Wish Upon A Star Gala on Nov. 17 in the Grande Ballroom at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort.
Tickets to this holiday themed event are $60 per person or $100 a couple and include a wine tasting, dinner, a live and silent auction and entertainment for the night will feature "Vida the Singing Diva."
Ticket, donation, or sponsorship information can be obtained by calling Tetrault at 304-224-3302. Sponsorship opportunities, which include tickets, are still available. The committee is still seeking donations of gifts, certificates or services for their auctions the night of the event.
