Trail Station to offer Election Day soup and bake sale

MCDONALD, Pa. - The McDonald Trail Station Election Day Bake Sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the trail station.

Hot dogs, soup, kielbasa and baked goods will be available.

All Saints selling spinach rolls

WEIRTON - The All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society will hold its Greek spinach roll sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the church Hellenic Memorial Hall located at 3528 West St.

The rolls are spanakopita, or Greek spinach pie, prepared as a roll and frozen. The cost is $8 per roll, and proceeds benefit the Philoptochos Society's charitable work.

The society also will be collecting items for Brooke Place, a residential group treatment home for girls. Items requested include slippers, pajamas and new underwear of all sizes; craft items; regular white towels; batteries of all sizes; mesh laundry bags; overnight and carry-all bags; school supplies; flash drives; light bulbs; toilet paper; and paper towels.

Thanksgiving story hour set

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will hold a Gobble Up A Good Book evening storytime at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8.

Kim Harless, the library's program director, will lead children in Thanksgiving stories, crafts and games.

Bread Basket to hold meeting

WEIRTON - The Community Bread Basket will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at Tri-State Church of God located at 3519 West St.

A social hour will follow at the Bread Basket offices located at 3501 West St. Refreshments will be served.

Library holding grant workshop

WEIRTON - The Mary H. Weir Public Library will present grant-seeking workshops for nonprofit groups and individuals seeking funding.

"Introduction to Finding Funders" will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 7. This session provides an introduction to the Foundation Directory Online, a database of grants and grantmakers to which the library has special access.

"Guide to Online Grant Seeker Resources" will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 5. This session is a guided tour of all the free resources available on the Foundation Center's website.

"Grant-Seeking Basics" will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 16. This introductory course provides an overview of the funding research process for those seeking grants from foundations, corporations, and grantmaking public charities.

All of the workshops are free and no reservation is required.

Newcomers 'Put a Lid On It'

WHEELING - The Wheeling Newcomers Club will hold its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Wheeling Country Club with a program, "Put a Lid On It!"

All those attending are encouraged to wear a hat they have either bought, altered or made. Prizes will be awarded for the prettiest, funniest and best coordinated hats.

The cost is $15 per person for lunch. The group is open to all women new to the area.

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Branch of the Brooke County Public Library will offer a free adult basic computer class at 11 a.m. Nov. 9.

Linda Dobbs will instruct the class.

Church holding bazaar

WELLSBURG - The Franklin United Methodist Women will hold their annual fall/Christmas bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at the church located at 1231 Washington Pike/state Route 27.

The Independence United Methodist Church will participate in the event.

A variety of crafts, baked goods and white elephants will be available for purchase.

The United Methodist Women supports local, national and international mission projects.

The public is invited to attend.

Christ United to hold turkey dinner

WEIRTON - Christ United Methodist Church will hold its annual turkey dinner from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 10 at the church's fellowship hall located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave.

Dinner includes roast turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, rolls, beverage and pumpkin pie. It is available for eat-in or carry-out. Delivery is available by calling the church at (304) 723-0800 or (304) 723-3002.
