Silent auction part of ‘Festa del Vino’ set for Nov. 9

November 2, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

For the second consecutive year "Festa del Vino" will be presented by the Italian American Cultural Club on Nov. 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville, with a special highlight of the evening being a silent auction of items provided by businesses and individuals.

Well-known local artist Dave Barnhouse has donated a print framed by Nelson's Fine Arts. The print entitled "Ready or Not" depicts Welday's Orchard and Cider House.

Auction chairman Jane Antonucci announced other items include a Myrtle Beach condo for one week; a framed Don Fusco print; a Nike driver; an autographed Steelers jersey and autographed Penguins jersey from Mr. Key's Marco Colantoni; a winery tour for 12 people; limousine service for three hours; assorted gift baskets; and gift certificates.

Antonucci also noted that the IACC received a $500 donation from the ECHO fund of Trinity Health System.

In addition to the silent auction, there will be a Chinese auction, a 50/50 drawing and numerous door prizes.

Iron City Distributing will supply the wines at four pouring stations showcasing Moscatos, Spritzers, Washington State and Dessert wines. For those who are not wine drinkers, there will be a fifth pouring station of hard ciders and craft beers supplied by Iron City Distributing and Choice Brands of Ohio.

Food selections from Piergallini Catering will include shrimp, pork sliders, balsamic beef, bruschetta, assorted cheeses and fruit. Sausages will be served at the beer station. There also will be a hot beverage bar with assorted coffees and amaretto to go along with a variety of homemade biscotti.

Musical entertainment throughout the evening will be presented by accordionist Rick Pastre and vocalist Joel Smith. Club member John Balzano will serve as master of ceremonies.

Proceeds from "Festa del Vino" will benefit the IACC Scholarship fund, according to Theresa Metcalf, event chairman and scholarship chairman. Metcalf noted that because of last year's successful event, the IACC awarded five $1,000 scholarships to area high school graduates. The club hopes to repeat or surpass that success this year, she said. The scholarships are named in memory of the late Rev. Edmondo Stabene.

Tickets for the event are $30 and can be obtained by calling Vince or Sandy Talarico at (740) 264-4065.

Tickets also are available at St. Florian Hall, Celebrations, Scaffidi's Pasta and Pittera's Pizza and also will be sold at the door the evening of the event.

Other committee members are: Nick and Deena Riley, Carm Gentile, Elida Petrella, Mariella Pittera, Billy Petrella, Mary Jo Rinaldi, Cheryl Adams, Lou and Carol Almonte, Teresa Laman, and Patty and Bob Ryan.
