WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Church of the Nazarene will celebrate Military Appreciation Day at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 11 at the church located at 835 Washington Pike.
This annual event recognizes and honors both active and former military personnel from the congregation and area.
This year's guest speaker will be Chaplain Mackberth Williams of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. He started his military service in 1982, while completing his bachelor's degree, he was called into the regular Army as an Army Chaplain. Following graduation from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1989, he applied for active duty as chaplain.
Williams has served in Fort Rucker, Ala., Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and Fort Bragg, N.C. He has also served overseas at Camp Casey and Camp Henry in Korea, as well as a tour in 2007 in Iraq. Chaplain Williams' awards include two Bronze Stars, seven Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, the Parachute Badge, the Air Assault Badge and all the ribbons for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Williams also will speak at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the church.
The Tri-State Young Marines will be in attendance to present the colors. Patriotic music and a special time of remembrance for military members who are now deceased will be observed.
The Rev. Dennis K. Yingling invites area military personnel to join the congregation for this annual service. A pre-service continental breakfast for veterans and members of the military to meet and greet Williams will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
