Help grant wishes

November 16, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

Saturday our area has a chance to make some dreams come true for some very special children, and we hope to see a great deal of support from our local residents.

The annual Wish Upon a Star Gala is being held Saturday at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort, with all proceeds set to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia.

Make-A-Wish and its volunteers work tirelessly to find ways to help out children with a variety of conditions, some of them life-threatening, by granting wishes. Over the years, these wishes have ranged from anything to a new playset for their backyard, to a camping trip, to meeting a favorite actor or singer and trips to Walt Disney World.

None of it would be possible, however, without support from local residents who contribute through fundraisers and other activities.

The Wish Upon a Star Gala is the largest fundraiser of the local Make-A-Wish's year, often bringing together hundreds for one special night featuring dinner, entertainment, as well as appearances by some of our own local Wish children - those who have seen the benefits of this organization and its work.

We wish all those involved in Make-A-Wish well with Saturday's gala, knowing our area once again will show how much it cares.

We also urge our area residents to take some time to learn more about the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as well as its local efforts, and see if there is a way for you to lend a hand.

What may seem like something small to some of us can make a big difference to others.
