To the Editor,
To borrow quotes and to paraphrase the story that appeared in the Nov. 8 edition, "Karen Mezan figures people who know her know she'd never slam her country, its flag or veterans ("McDonald's operator: Flipped flag due to faulty pole.")
A pulley broke on the flagpole. While trying to fix it, "The flag was inadvertently turned upside down. The upside-down flag went unnoticed by the restaurant's workers.:
"As soon as we knew, we went out and cut the rope and took it down. It wasn't meant to offend anybody, it was definitely not anything like that," she added.
"The timing couldn't have been worse, coming as it was on the heels of a hotly contested presidential election. We're an American corporation. We love America, we love our flag, we love our veterans and the people here love us."
The owners of McDonald's in Follansbee are wonderful people. They support our community, clubs, schools, our country and veterans.
We should not jump to conclusions before we know the facts.
