WEIRTON - The American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary held their monthly meeting Nov. 19 at the post hall on Pennsylvania Avenue, with President Shirley Brecht calling the meeting to order, leading the Pledge of Allegiance, singing "God Bless America" and presiding over the business session.
Chaplain Wanda Perrone gave the invocation and held a moment of silence in memory of deceased members; auxiliary members recited the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary; Secretary Clara Robinson called roll and read the October meeting minutes, which were approved as read; and Loretta Fabian gave the treasurer's report.
Brecht welcomed new member Doreen Holestein, who was sworn in and pinned. Historian Joan Spano reported the group receive a congratulatory letter on their Korean War veterans dinner from Tri-State Medical Group. Spano plans to send Christmas cards to veterans at Serra Manor and Geriatric Center.
Perrone reported sending get-well cards to Joan Spano and Gloria Jerrel. Brecht read a thank-you note from Duke Horstemeyer for the Korean veterans dinner.
Brecht placed a wreath Nov. 12 at the Millsop Community Center on behalf of the auxiliary as part of the Veterans Day ceremonies.
The group will hold its children's Christmas party at 5 p.m. Dec. 7 and the adults' party at 5 p.m. Dec. 8. The auxiliary Christmas party is at 6 p.m. Dec. 17 at Undo's.
Auxiliary members agreed to purchase new wreaths for the auxiliary and Gold Star Mothers and donate two gift cards for two local families in need for the holidays.
Betty Chappell won the 50/50 drawing.
Perrone gave the closing prayer, and Brecht adjourned the meeting.
The next meeting will be Jan. 21 at the post hall.
