FLAHERTY, Danny D. Sr., 67, of Smithfield, OH, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, in East Ohio Regional Hospital as a result of an automobile accident.
Danny was born June 26, 1945, in Wyatt, WV, son of the late James and Dolores Lindsay Flaherty.
Danny was a retired coal miner and also retired from the Village of Smithfield. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Danny coached for many years in Smithfield coaching both Little League and the Midget Spartan Football Team.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lisa Flaherty; son, Jay DiLoreto; sister, Betty Wilson; brother, James Flaherty; niece, Deanna Wilson; and nephew, Tom Flaherty.
Danny is survived by his children, daughter Mary (John) Panjuscsek of Richmond, OH; his son, Danny (Joyce) Flaherty Jr. of Smithfield, OH; two brothers, Randy (Rita) Flaherty of Mingo Jct., OH and Gary (Tammy) Flaherty of Canaan, NY; four sisters, Wilma (Dick) Bird of Hampden, MA, Kay (Ed) Varadi of Mineral City, OH, Sharon (Dennis) Morris of Brilliant, OH and Mary (Terry) Wilson of Smithfield, OH. Danny also leaves behind several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Danny will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, OH where his funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Military honors will be presented on Wednesday at the funeral home by the Smithfield, Piney Fork and Brilliant American Legions. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be offered to Dan's family c/o of his daughter, Mary Panjuscsek, 12148 Co. Rd. 56, Richmond, Ohio 43944 to help them through this difficult time.
