To the Editor,
Last week the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce presented Weirton's second Christmas Night Parade. It was definitely a lot colder than last year, but those in attendance were not disappointed. It was a great parade with several large commercial floats as well as non-commercial floats. Everything and everyone seemed to be in lights. There were bands, dancing groups, horses, Disney Characters on floats and even a trick rider, with Santa once again making his special appearance. Then the skies burst into holiday fireworks. It was a bright, colorful array of reds, greens and gold's that lit up the sky. You could see it from everywhere; something new and different for the community to enjoy. Thank you Marsh Pipe & Supply, MedExpress, Cattrell Companies and our Grand Finale sponsor, Hancock County Savings Bank, for sponsoring the fireworks and joining me in thinking out of the box to present something new to the community.
Many people came together to help make this a great day. The Millsop Community Center was open for you to check in with Deb Witkowski to vote on your favorite Christmas tree while the Weirton United Way offered pictures with Santa. The Top of WV Convention and Visitors Bureau had local crafters located at the Greater Weirton Senior Center showcasing their holiday items, and the 30 foot train village display was running at the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center for all the kids to see. Wine and Beverage Merchants and Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home came together to organize a collection to benefit the Community Bread Basket, Weirton Christian Center and the Salvation Army. First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union was once again offering the warmth of hot chocolate to everyone on the street, as they do each year. Businesses on Main Street came together for the occasion.
There were many people involved who helped make this event happen. Our thanks to our parade sponsors, First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union, Tri-State Audiology, Weirton Medical Center and West Virginia Northern Community College, who continue to sponsor this parade and have supported us for the past several years. Thank you to the City of Weirton, the Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Works for working continuously with us throughout the year; our parade judges Sue Shank, Donna Donohue and Gloria Jerrel; The Weirton United Way, Top of WV Convention & Visitors Bureau, Lauttamus Communications, Weirton Rental, The Lawn Barber, Rich Young, Dave Whalen, Mike Skinner, Aaron Skinner and friends, Brandon Palmeri, Cathy Gipson, James White Construction, Weir High School, Novelty +, and the numerous volunteers from the First Church of the Nazarene who carried banners and handed out candy. Thank you to the media, The Weirton Daily Times, WEIR Radio and WTOV9 for fantastic coverage and support.
My appreciation goes out to our Special Projects Committee, spearheaded by Don Gianni Jr., Joe Stankiewicz, and our Chamber staff, Amber Nest and Patty Soplinski, who took care of all the final details. Thank you one and all!!
President, Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce
