To the Editor,
Wow! What else can you say about last Saturday nights Weirton Christmas Parade? Thank you to the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce Special Projects Committee, Chamber President Brenda Mull, chamber "office girls" Amber Nest and Patty Soplinski, and especially to Joe Stankiewicz for his endless energy and enthusiasm in planning the parade and other events. Thanks to Weirton Steel 25 Year Club and Leadership Weirton Class for working at getting the decorations around town ready and up. Thanks to the City of Weirton Administration and staff from the Electricians, Public Works, Police, and Fire Departments that came out to support the operations of the parade, some giving up hunting, vacation time or family time to make this happen. Thanks to Mayor George Kondik for negotiating an impressive fireworks display. Lastly but most importantly, thank you to the corporate sponsors that donated for the parade and fireworks. Without your generosity none of this would be possible. I am sure there are others that deserve recognition such as the golf cart donors, trucks pulling floats, and other hidden jobs that were doneThank You.
Even though it was a cold night, it was warming to walk down Main Street in the parade and see such a large crowd with so many children that were happy and anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus. Weirton citizens need this joyful distraction from time to time to remind them of the gifts of life and the spirit of community. The fireworks display was an awesome twist to the evening surprising many in the crowd and leaving them awe strickenOoo. Awe. That was a great shot, etc. After walking the parade with the City of Weirton float I stood on Main Street across from the Community Center with my grown daughter and an old friend of mine that from time to time gives me good constructive criticism about things around town, and so I asked him "how can we make this better?" He was speechless for a while and replied "I think you guys outdid yourselves this time. I can't think of any way to do this any better." That is the greatest compliment anyone can receive and I pass that on to the organizers of this event.
In closing, I think I am safe to say on behalf of the Citizens of Ward III and the City of Weirton Administration here is a big thank you! To the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce and their members, City of Weirton Employees, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, Leadership Weirton, the corporate sponsors, and anyone else behind the scenes for giving this community such a great event to attend and light the spirit of the Christmas season. Let's do it again next year!
