NEW CUMBERLAND - The Point Pleasant Ladies Aide held a covered-dish dinner and meeting Nov. 14 at the Point Pleasant Methodist Church located on Wylie Ridge with President Carolyn Allison calling the meeting to order.
Louanne Huff said grace, and Allison lit the memory candle to remember members unable to attend because of illness, obligations or traveling. The tables were decorated in a Thanksgiving theme.
Allison gave a welcome and expressed thanks for cards, meals and help she received from members after a foot injury, which prevented her from attending the group's last meeting.
Huff read scripture on attitude and gratitude from Psalms 104 and asked members to express gratitude for those things for which they were thankful every day. Members shared large and small reasons to be thankful.
Mick Gaffoli read the minutes, and Kathleen McDonald gave the financial report.
Patty Bruce and Ruth Fuller gave a report on delivering coats to local elementary schools and Gaffoli read thank-you cards from the schools. Members donated hats and gloves to be distributed to the Salvation Army, New Manchester Elementary School, A.T. Allison Elementary School, Food Closet, Oak Glen High School and Oak Glen Middle School. Huff volunteered to distribute the items.
Roni Poling reminded members afghans are still for sale at $25 each. Those interested in purchasing one should contact Poling at (304) 564-5378.
The group donated a poinsettia to the church in memory of a deceased member, and members voted to make a donation to the Christ Tree, which are donations given in honor or memory of a loved one. The group also agreed to make a donation to the United Churches of Social Services.
Marian Caine reminded members they could purchase fudge from the United Methodist Men by contacting Tom Tate.
Members shared concerns and requests for prayer and closed the meeting by singing "God Be With You Until We Meet Again."
Linda Marsh, Poling, Carrie Graff and Marian Caine were hostesses.
The Dec. 12 meeting will be held at Patty Bruce's home, and members are asked to bring an item for the gift exchange.
