Mary H. Weir Library to host

holiday craft workshop

WEIRTON - The Mary H. Weir Public Library will host a paper train factory holiday craft workshop from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the library located on Main Street.

The workshop will be held in the Children's Department on the main floor. A sample of the project may be viewed in the display case in the library's foyer.

Church holding breakfast

WEIRTON - The Cove Presbyterian Church will hold a breakfast with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church located at 3404 Main St.

Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage and milk, juice or coffee. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 11 and under.

Country Friends hosting dance

COLLIERS - Country Friends will host The Sands of Time Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.

The group holds a covered-dish dinner and open mic night every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Library to show animated film

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the science-fiction adventure, "Men in Black 3", rated PG-13, at 1 p.m. Tuesday and the animated film "Ice Age Continental Drift," rated PG, on Dec. 15 at 11 a.m.

Library offers craft class

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be offering a craft class for age 9 to adults at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 13.

Participants will make an old-fashioned paper ornament. Stop by the library to see a sample.

Drama Club presents 'Cheer'

WEIRTON - The Weirton Madonna High School Drama club presents "Christmas Cheer," an evening of singing and skits, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at the high school gymnasium.

The cost is $6 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased for $5 by calling the school at (304) 723-0545.

Operation Christmas Child ongoing

WHEELING - The Samaritan's Purse's Operation Christmas Child will deliver gifts to suffering children in more than 130 countries, and local families can participate through the charity's online "Build a Box."

Those participating can visit the website at, select a child by age and gender, shop through a selection of gifts, write a note of encouragement and track the box to its destination. Boxes will be packed with school supplies, toys and necessity items.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected more than 94 million shoe box gifts and hand-delivered them. Through a gift and message of hope through Jesus Christ, these young survivors of natural disaster, war, famine and poverty learn they are loved and not forgotten. For many of these children, the simple shoe box will be the first gift they have ever received.

Trip available for inauguration

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - A motorcoach package for President Barack Obama's inauguration Jan. 20-22 is available through the Kenley Konnection with a bus leaving from the Hollywood Shopping Plaza.

The trip includes a sightseeing tour to the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial if traffic permits and transportation to the National Mall for the inauguration parade and ceremony.
