Larry ‘Fred’ Cawthorn

CAWTHORN, Larry "Fred," 67, of Mount Holly, NC, formerly of Dallas, TX and Follansbee, WV, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the Levine and Dixon Hospice in Huntersville, NC.

Fred was born on Jan. 10, 1945, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Fred G. and Samantha (Irvin) Cawthorn.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, George and Jack Cawthorn.

Fred was Free Methodist by faith, and was a member of the Dallas Bible Church in Dallas, TX.

In his early years, Fred served in the United States Army as a communications specialist in Germany. After military discharge, Fred worked as an engineer on the Weirton Steel Corporation railroad. His true passion was sales, and he was a lifelong salesman who had an entrepreneurial spirit.

Fred eventually became an oil broker and worked for Sundance Capitol in Dallas, TX, and later retired from Noble Royalties in Dallas, TX.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Margaret Diana (Brodhead) Cawthorn, whom he married on April 9, 1992; four children, Valerie Obenchain and fiance, Bobby Hall of Greensboro, NC, Fredrick George and wife, (Pamela Conley) Cawthorn of Mount Holly, NC, Sandra "Sandy" (Marchbanks) Parkerson and husband, Doug Parkerson of Kampala, Uganda, Africa, and Michael Marchbanks and fiancee, Pranee Somdee of Bangkok, Thailand; nine grandchildren, Krista and Chase Obenchain, Kayla and Fredrick Cawthorn, Elena, Emmett, Luke, and Lyla Parkerson, and Mena Marchbanks; several cousins, Jim (Margaret) Bowery of Wellsburg, WV, Donald (Donna) Geary of Follansbee, WV, Virginia McCoy of North Chili, NY, David (Dee) Irvin and Pauline Irvin, both of Rayland, OH; several nieces and nephews, Terry Cawthorn, Jack Cawthorn, Linda (Cawthorn) Elias, Dennis Cawthorn and Lori (Cawthorn) Beard, Jack Cawthorn, Deb (Cawthorn) Marano, Lori (Cawthorn) Jacobs, Steve Cawthorn and Chris Cawthorn

Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV, with Pastor Bryce Grieco, officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Johns Cemetery in Colliers, WV.

Full military honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blessed Hope Champions Orphanage in care of P..O Box 1005 Ripley, WV 25271.
