STEUBENVILLE - The Community Reinvestment Council recertified a lengthy list of properties for tax abatements for 2013 during the annual meeting Wednesday.
"The tax abatement program is an incentive for property owners to make substantial improvements to their properties and see a reduction in their property tax for a specified period of time," explained Urban Projects Director Chris Petrossi.
"The program is available for property owners in the downtown area, hilltop neighborhoods as well as Lincoln Avenue and Lincoln Heights," Petrossi said.
"There are a few properties that we need to keep an eye on for the next several years. But I recommend all of the properties be approved," noted Petrossi.
CRC member Billy Petrella, an employee of the Tri-State Financial Services, abstained from voting on the abatement for the Tri-State Financial property because he is associated with the business.
In other business during the brief meeting, the board re-elected Charles Joyce as chairman and Tom Timmons as vice chairman.
In attendance for the annual meeting were Joyce, Timmons, Petrella, Richard Beal and Michael Feist.
First Ward Councilman Gerald DiLoreto also attended the meeting.
