To the Editor,
Area residents need to be aware of the pending flu season that is in our midst. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is urging all those who want to avoid the flu to get their flu shot. It is important for area residents to understand it is not too late to get vaccinated.
Over 200,000 hospitalizations take place each year because of the influenza virus. The culprit this year is a particular strain of flu referred to as H3N2. This strains hits harder and lasts longer.
Another misconception is that children who are at home at a young age get the flu from other children but the fact remains that many times their parents bring the flu bug home. It is important for parents as well as children to be vaccinated.
It does not matter where you get your flu shot. It is available many places. CDC data shows there are millions of Americans still not vaccinated.
Avoid the flu over the holiday season by getting your flu shot.
