CWU holds Christmas luncheon

WEIRTON - The Church Women United Executive Board held their annual Christmas luncheon Dec. 7 at St. Peter's AME Church located on County Road.

Seventeen churches were represented. President Karen Tate welcome those in attendance and read the poem "At Christmas" by Edgar Albert Guest.

Eileen Reves of Second Baptist Church led traditional Christmas songs, including "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "Go Tell It On the Mountain."

Joyce Summers blessed the food. Louise Salter, Reeves, Hattie Mosley and Summers were hostesses.

Cathy Cooper of St. Paul's Catholic Church gave a presentation, "History of Santa Claus." The group held an anonymous gift exchange. Citizen Action Chair Diane Pastoric collected sleepwear for the children of the Weirton Christian Center and Dunbar Recreation Center.

Hospitality Chair Eleanor Cline thanked the host church for the luncheon. She announced the next board meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 1 at the Cove Presbyterian Church.

Pam Makricosta of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and the Rev. James Rudiger of Cove Presbyterian Church.

Tate closed the program with "A Christmas Carol," also written by Guest. Each member received a 2013 calendar book and a dove pin and were reminded to thank God for promises.
