WEIRTON - The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary recently held its monthly meeting at the Serbian American Cultural Center on Colliers Way with President Joan Spano calling the meeting to order and presiding over the business session.
Chaplain Mary Ann Smith led devotions, read Luke 2:8-14 and offered the invocation, including special prayers for Mary Ann Elliott, Connie Robinson, Jim Hobart, Mary Arlia, George Tremblay, Mary Coborn and Danny Lyons. Shirley Brecht read "Thank You Lord," and Marcy Spano led the Pledge of Allegiance. Vice President Darlene Kemp called roll, and Secretary Carol Lyons read the November meeting minutes. Maxine Ragan gave the treasurer's report, which was approved as read.
Lyons read a thank-you letter from the Barboursville Veterans Home for the 98 Christmas cards, 16 birthday cards and calendars sent to residents by Joan Spano. The group also received thank-you cards from Henry Portcarrero, Valley Haven Residents, Joan and Tom Powers, Joe Simms and Boatsie's Boxes. In the absence of Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliot, Joan Spano gave her report. December birthday wishes were extended to Joan Spano, Peg Dawson and Darlene Kemp.
CHRISTMAS PARTY — The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary recently held their Christmas party at Undo’s. Shirley Brecht gave a report on the group's secret pals project and revealed the secret pals for 2013.
The auxiliary sent 1,181 Christmas cards to active duty military members and veterans in local nursing homes.
JoAnn Johns won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back to the treasury.
Following the meeting, the auxiliary joined the Marines Club for their Christmas party.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Serbian American Cultural Center.
