SLIVENSKI, Joe Slivenski Jr., 90, of Piney Fork, OH, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.
Joe was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Piney Fork, son of the late Joe and Agnes Gondek Slivenski Sr.
Joe was a retired welder employed by Consol Coal Co. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church in Adena. His other memberships and interests included the Pine Valley Sportsman's Club, UMWA and the Piney Fork American Legion. He loved the Polka Barons, and was a lifelong avid Pittsburgh sports fan.
Joe served his country during WW II, in the U.S. Army Air Force.
In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia in 2009; his sister, Irene Fillippi; and his brother, John "Jake" Slivenski.
Surviving are his daughter, Dianne (Charles) Hughes of Yorkville, OH; his son, Daniel (Gina) Slivenski of Steubenville, OH; his sister, Agnes (John) Panepucci of Dillonvale, OH; his granddaughter, Jessica (Coy) Sudvary of Steubenville, OH; and his two great-granddaughters, Ari and Leila Sudvary.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 11 from 4-8 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 107 Hill St., Smithfield, OH. Saturday the family will gather at the Funeral Home from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. followed by Joe's Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Casimir Church in Adena.
Msgr. John Kolesar will Celebrant the Mass and burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield. Wake Service Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
Military Graveside Honors will be provided by the Piney Fork American Legion, along with other area Legion Posts.
