Colliers Primary honored

Jo-Ellen Goodall, Colliers Primary School principal, announced the school was named a West Virginia Title I Distinguished School and is one of 12 from across the state to receive the award. There are 373 Title I schools in West Virginia. Congratulations.

New trustees

listed

The following Colliers Volunteer Fire Department trustees will serve in 2013: Tim Cain, Richard C. Bailey, Kevin Neverly, Lloyd Latcshaw and Jim Zimireck.

Officers include President Theo Keenan, Vice President Jack Cain, Secretary Samantha Vilga and Treasurer Doran Daughtery. Theo Keenan is fire chief and Richard C. Bailey is assistant chief.

Colliers alumni meet

The Colliers Alumni and Friends Association met recently with President Darlene Brennan presiding.

Reports were given on fundraisers, and members decided to continue to take orders for the alumni calendars until Feb. 15. Calendars may be ordered by calling the school at (304) 748-8188. Orders must be prepaid, and checks may be written to Colliers Alumni and sent care of Colliers School, 270 Pennsylvania Ave., Colliers, WV 26035.

The group also discussed other fundraising ideas.

The alumni award a scholarship to a Brooke High School senior who attended Colliers School, and the application deadline is April 5. Information and applications are available at the high school.

The group will next meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at the school library.

Trappers hold

dinner

The Northern Panhandle Trappers Association held their annual holiday dinner at the Colliers Fire Hall recently.

Kylie Greathouse, Ryan Taylor, Jan Underwood and Tim Cain won door prizes.

The next regular meeting will be 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at the fire hall.

Door winners announced

The Colliers School door decorating contest winners were announced.

Arah Barker won first place; Lori Robey, second; and Holly Yarter, third.

The students created designs for the doors to honor their teachers.

Principal Jo-Ellen Goodall distributed prizes, and Phyllis Aria, Evelyn Robinson and Carol Cain were judges.

Church presents holiday program

The Colliers Christian Church presented the holiday program "What Is Christmas."

Katy Gardei, Jerald Nichols, Judy Tomes, Gina Bailey, Carol Cain and Anita Pratt read poems. Earl Bailey and Christine Nichols performed music. Will McGinnis gave the benediction.

Colliers PTA holds meeting

The Colliers Primary School Parent-Teacher Association met recently, with President Tawnya Dennis presiding. Dianna Cornett's and Cheryl-Lynn Kelly's third-grade classes led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Monica Hosler gave a membership report, noting the group has 103 members. Chrissy Carbasho gave the homeroom parents party rules, and Stephanie Bubeck reported on birthday honorees. Jodi Fabian requested more boxtop and Campbell labels. It was reported that Santa's Workshop was successful.

Dana Marie Stoll's and Arah Ann Barker's classes won room count.

Principal Jo-Ellen Goodall reported on the Ventriloquist Program, an anti-bullying self-esteem program; students attending a West Virginia Symphony program, "Boyz in the Wood"; a visit from the Monteclaire String Quartet; a performance by the Follansbee Middle School band; and a visit from the Brooke High Madrigal. The fourth-grade students performed at the Weirton Hospital Christmas Party.

Following the meeting, the Colliers United Methodist Church Choir sang a medley of Christmas carols and refreshments were served.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12.
