Top Buckeye spellers

Sarina Tetley, a sixth-grader at Buckeye South Elementary School, finished in first place in the Buckeye Local School District spelling bee held Wednesday night at Buckeye Local High School. Top finishers included, from left, front, Tetley; Kya Demeter, a fifth-grader at Buckeye West Elementary, second; Ember Carpenter, a sixth-grader at West Elementary, third; Ashley Burkett, a sixth-grader at Buckeye North Elementary, fourth; and Matthew Rector, a seventh-grader at Buckeye Local Junior High, fifth: and back, Allie Berze, a fifth-grader at West Elementary, sixth; Audrey Sebring, a sixth-grader at West Elementary, seventh; Blake Ring-Fish, a sixth-grader at Buckeye South Elementary; Corbin Gray, a seventh-grader at Buckeye Local Junior High, first alternate; and Marley Basich a fifth-grader at West Elementary, second alternate. The top eight spellers will advance to the 29th-annual Jefferson-Harrison County Regional Spelling Bee presented by Eastern Gateway Community College and the Herald-Star. The regional bee, also sponsored by the Rotary Club of Steubenville and Huntington Bank, will be held at 1 p.m. March 2 at Buckeye North Elementary School in Brilliant.
