School to hold
WELLSBURG - The third-annual Break Bread with the Bruins community dinner will be held Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
While school will be closed that day, students, staff and other volunteers will serve a free spaghetti dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the school's front cafeteria.
Everyone is welcome.
Cemetery lot owners
to meet Jan. 28
WELLSBURG - A semi-annual lot owners' meeting of the Franklin Cemetery Association will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 28 at Wellsburg Presbyterian Church.
Friends of Smithfield
meeting set Feb. 2
SMITHFIELD - Members of the Friends of Smithfield Community Development Corp. are to meet at 11 a.m. on Feb. 2 at the Smithfield United Presbyterian Church.
John Borkowski and Linda Helt, joint chairmen, will conduct a meeting with discussion about the village signs and planter boxes and ask for suggestions for grant applications to help finance projects.
There will be discussion about membership and fundraising and an update on the condition of the Northern Cemetery, a project the group has helped to fund for mowing and cleanup during the summer.
The annual election of directors and officers will be held, and Village Council updates will be given.

dinner Feb. 8
CHARLESTON - U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-Charleston, will be the key speaker for the West Virginia Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner on Feb. 8 at the Charleston Marriott.
Party Chairman Conrad Lucas said Patrick Morrisey, the state's new attorney general, will be a special guest. State Del. Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, and state Sen. Mike Hall, R-Hurricane, will lead a legislative roundtable discussion.
