John Bolster, a Catholic Central High School sophomore, received a check for $1,000 from Baci Carpico, past state deputy, Ohio Knights of Columbus and a member of the Knights scholarship committee. Bolster's parents, Ron and Andrea, joined Dolores Michnowicz, Catholic Central coordinator of student services, for the presentation.
During this school year, the Knights of Columbus has presented 47 scholarships totaling $47,000, Carpico said. Applicants for the scholarships must be students in grades nine through 12 at a Catholic high school in Ohio, who have a financial need and a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, Carpico explained. Bolster is a member of Holy Family Parish, Steubenville, where he is an altar server. At Catholic Central High School, Bolster participates in soccer, track and concert and marching bands. He also is a member of the Boy Scouts of America.
Since the inception of the scholarship program in 1997, the organization has provided more than $498,000 to students enrolled in Catholic high schools in Ohio.
