Free throw contest

set for Saturday

Steubenville Knights of Columbus Council No. 472 is sponsoring a basketball free throw contest to be held beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bishop John King Mussio Elementary School, 100 Etta Ave., Steubenville, in the former Holy Rosary School gymnasium.

All boys and girls from age 10 through 14 are eligible to participate.

Individual contests will be conducted for each age group, and there will be awards for the winners of each age group.

The winners will be eligible to compete in the District Free Throw competition, which is scheduled for noon Saturday immediately following the local competition.

Entry forms can be picked up at local grade schools in the Steubenville-Wintersville area.

If a school doesn't have entry forms, they will be available at the door the day of the contest. Proof of age is required if signing up Saturday. Doors open at 10 a.m.

Alpha Mu has

new members

The Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honor society for women educators in Jefferson and Carroll counties, accepted Katherine Ferguson and Diana Thomas as new members at its Dec. 8 meeting.

They were nominated for membership by Joyce Ferguson and will be officially installed at the chapter's March meeting.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International has more than 95,000 members in 17 countries. Its mission is promoting professional and personal growth among women educators.

Darlene Smith is the president of the local chapter.

Candlelight vigil

set for Saturday

Survivors for Victims, in collaboration with the Sexual Assault Help Center, will hold a candelight vigil at 6 p.m. Saturday in front of the Millsop Community Center.

The vigil will recognize the high-profile rape case in India and honor that victim and all sexual assault victims.

This is part of a wide-spread vigil being held at the same time throughout the United States and India.
