Follansbee Baseball Association set to hold sign-ups Saturday

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Baseball Association will hold sign-ups from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 9 and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at City Council Chambers.

The cost is $40 for T-Ball and Pinto, $60 for Mustang and Bronco, and $40 for Pony, special celebratatory pricing for the grand re-opening of the Pony division. The first child is registered at the regular price, and there is a $10 discount for each additional sibling. Registration includes baseball pants, hat and jersey.

The association is holding a ham/turkey shoot fundraiser, with blocks available at $1 each. One winner per target gets a choice of a turkey or ham and will receive it before Easter. The contest ends March 1.

A murder-mystery dinner fundraiser will be held March 9 at Staffileno's on the River in Wellsburg. The Brooke Hills Players will perform "Where There's a Will, There's a Way." There will be a Chinese auction and 50/50 drawing. Tickets are $20 per person and includes dinner, dessert and the show. For tickets, call (304) 374-3658 or (304) 871-3308.

Country Friends to host dance

COLLIERS - Country Friends will host The Sands of Time Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

Country Friends holds covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christianity, friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity.

Grief support group to begin

WELLSBURG - A GriefShare seminar and support group will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the New Day Christian Center located at 2640 Pleasant Ave., beginning Tuesday and continuing through April 30.

The weekly video seminar will feature experts on grief recovery topics, and a grief support group discussion will allow time for participants to talk about the seminar content and how they are coping.

Altar Society holding breakfast

AVELLA, Pa. - The St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church Altar Society will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at the church hall located at 176 Cross Creek Road. The cost is $6 for adults and $2 for children. Take-out is available.

Capito speaking at dinner

CHARLESTON - U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-Charleston, will be the key speaker for the West Virginia Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner Feb. 8 at the Charleston Marriott.

Party Chairman Conrad Lucas said Patrick Morrisey, the state's new attorney general, also will be a special guest, along with state Del. Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, and state Sen. Mike Hall, R-Hurricane, who will lead a legislative roundtable discussion.
