Hancock County Schools kindergarten registration and orientation will be held March 15 at each of the elementary school sites.

Times and locations are as follows:

9:30 a.m., Allison Elementary School, (304) 387-1915;

9:30 a.m., Broadview Elementary School, (304) 723-2525;

8:30 a.m., Liberty Elementary School, (304) 723-2818;

8:30 a.m., New Manchester Elementary School, (303) 564-3242; and

10 a.m., Weirton Heights Elementary School, (304) 748-1950.

Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to be eligible. Parents and guardians will need the child's current immunization records, Social Security card and state-certified birth certificate signed by the state registrar from the Office of Vital Statistics in the state in which the child was born.

In the case school is delayed or canceled March 15, the registration and orientation will be held March 22, with times remaining the same.

Avella schedules

AVELLA, Pa. - The Avella Area School District will be registering 2012-2014 academic year kindergarten pupils March 27-28.

Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to be eligible for kindergarten. Parents and guardians should bring a birth certificate issued by the Bureau of Vital Statistics; immunization records showing the child has up-to-date vaccinations for DTP, Polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B and chicken pox; completed health history form; proof of residency, including a tax bill, rent receipt or current utility bill; general information form and language survey; and, in the case of a child who has specific restrictions involving custody or guardian issues, an official court order detailing the restrictions. Those families new to the district are asked to register with their respective townships.

All registration sessions are by appointment only. Registration packets may be picked up at the Avella Elementary School Office prior to registration.

During registration, children will undergo a developmental screening, reading placement screening and speech and vision screenings.

Parents should allow one and one-half hour to two hours for registration.
