A very displeased parent

February 3, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

I am a parent of a 20-month-old. While I was at work on Jan. 25, my son was safe at home with his father waiting for his sister to get home from school. He was learning his ABCs, watching educational videos and having a great time when a snowstorm sends a frenzy through town. Instead of staying safe at home while the roads are in terrible shape, he had to get all bundled up and brave the horrible condition of the roads while his father picked Sissy up from school early because they had dismissed the students.

At the time of the dismissal, the storm was in its full bloom. Instead of waiting for the crews to get on the roads and clear them properly, the students were being picked up by their parents during the worst part of the storm.

At 4:30 p.m., the original time Sissy was supposed to be picked up, the roads were in a better driving condition. Next time school systems decide to dismiss early, please take into consideration the unsafe position you put families in, and for that matter, please have faith in the road crews for the great job they do in clearing the roads to make it a safer place to drive.

I thank my husband for the great job he did getting my son (and his Sissy) safely home when other people make ridiculous hasty decisions.
