Staffileno’s triple-double leads Brooke past Edison

RICHMOND - Brooke sophomore Angela Staffileno recorded a triple-double in the Bruins' 63-44 win over Edison Saturday afternoon.

She totaled 32 points, 15 rebounds and 12 blocks as Brooke won for the second time this season.

Michaela Hinerman added 12 points and Marena Cline 10 for the winners.

The Wildcats trailed by two points after the opening frame, but the Bruins outscored them 35-19 in the next two periods.

Molly McCoy was the lone Edison player to reach double digits finishing with 20 points. Kayli Stewart added eight points for the Wildcats, while Abby Fonow netted six points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Edison will begin sectional play on Monday at Union Local against Buckeye Local.

Brooke hosts Oak Glen on Monday.

Bruins top Monarchs

WELLSBURG - Freshman Mark Cole had his second straight double-double, recording 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Brooke boys basketball team defeated John Marshall 55-44 Saturday.

Eric Johnson added a game-high 14 points and nine boards. Russell Schwertfeger contributed 11 points.

Brooke visits Linsly Tuesday.

Red Devils sweep Panthers

RAYLAND - The St. Clairsville boys and girls basketball teams swept host Buckeye Local Saturday, 63-41 (girls) and 66-43.

Dan Monteroso led the Red Devils with a game-high 23 points as they outscored the Panthers 13-5 in the second quarter for a 32-19 halftime lead.

Kyle Michalo scored 17 and Brennan Czuchran totaled 13 for the Panthers.

Buckeye Local hosts Shenandoah Tuesday.

The Lady Red Devils broke open a close game with a 20-8 second-quarter showing for a 34-21 lead at the break.

Becky Zeroski scored 14 and Kayla Fillipovich added 10 for the Panthers.

Buckeye Local enters sectional play Monday with a 7 p.m. contest with Edison at Union Local.

Riders fall again

WEIRTON - The East Fairmont boys basketball team held Weir High to eight points in the first half and cruised to a 50-36 victory Saturday inside the Carl Hamill Fieldhouse.

The Red Riders fell to 1-17 and will host Edison Tuesday.

Dylan Casiadoro led Weir with 15 points. Teammate Josh Groves added 10.

Lady Royals win

WEIRTON - The Jefferson County Christian girls basketball team assured itself its fifth straight winning season with a 26-20 victory over Robinson Township Christian Friday at the Millsop Community Center.

Lani Moro paced the Lady Royals with 11 points. Meadow Jackson added six.

They hit the road Monday at The Neighborhood Academy and Tuesday at American Spirit Academy.

FUS women, men lose

STEUBENVILLE - Medaille College overcame a three-point halftime deficit and earned a 60-46 victory over the Franciscan University of Steubenville women's basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The Barons held a 26-23 lead at the half. Junior guard Hannah Flanagan had four three-pointers from all over the floor, nailing two each half and contributing 14 points.

FUS is 3-12 in conference play.

The men dropped an 83-62 decision on senior Frank Murray's final home game of his collegiate playing career.

Justin Horstman totaled 18 points, Christian Duke 14 and Daniel Kleinschnitz 12 for FUS.

The Barons visit Mount Aloysius on Wednesday.
