Weirton Daily Times

STEUBENVILLE City Council members considered a lengthy list of emergency ordinances Tuesday night including the recommended list of streets to be resurfaced this year with Community Development Block Grant funds.

The city will now advertise for bids for the CDBG street resurfacing list.

The council also approved an ordinance to advertise for bids for the Park Security and Lighting project to be paid for with CDBG funds.

The city manager was authorized to purchase real estate at the city marina owned by the Ohio Department of Transportation for $1.

The property acquisition is part of the project to build a walkway and observation deck on the remaining pier of the Fort Steuben Bridge.

In other business the council approved a resolution proclaiming February as national African-American month in the city.

The council agreed to approve expenditures without a purchase order over $3,000.

And emergency legislation to approve and adopt current replacement pages to the codified ordinances was approved.

The council also issued a commendation to former city resident Matthew Paprocki for winning the Best of Show award for two consecutive years at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Paprocki is the co-founder and creative director of Soundfreaq, the maker of a critically acclaimed line of wireless speakers.

A second reading was heard for an ordinance amending the city's building code fees.

And an ordinance authorizing the city manager to execute a Housing Revolving Loan Fund Administration Agreement with the Ohio Development Services Agency also received a second reading.
