WEIRTON - Acts are still being accepted for the fifth annual Kinsley S. Ard Memorial Talent Show, sponsored by the Weir High School Class of 2014 Parent Group, to be held at 7 p.m. March 15 at the high school's Milton J. Weinberg Theatre.

Acts will be accepted in the following age categories: elementary, grades kindergarten through fourth; middle, grades fifth through eighth; and high school, grades ninth through 12th. Only the first 20 entries in each category will be accepted. Those participating may perform individually, as part of a duo or as groups of three or more. Any area child may participate; entrants need not be enrolled in Hancock County Schools. Entry fees are $15 for a solo act, $20 for a duo and $25 for a group act. Children may only participate in one act, and all acts must be two minutes in length. There will be a mandatory dress rehearsal March 14 at the theater.

To register, contact Tina Viakley at (304) 723-5558. Registration forms and a complete set of rules also may be obtained at the high school office.

Cash prizes will be awarded in each age category. First place winners will receive $100, second $75 and third $50.

Deb Witkowski, WTOV-TV personality, will be the head judge. Kevin Elias, City of Weirton programs director, and Kristin Bissett, high school assistant principal, also will judge. Linda Ard of Weirton, Kinsley's mother, will manage backstage; Earl Tuttle will provide the sound system; Jim and Kathy Griffith will direct the lighting; and Ted Soplinski will direct sound.

The event also will include a Chinese auction, with items including a R.E. Saxon necklace, Quick Fit gift card, Versace men's sunglasses and a Sheetz gift card. Refreshments will be sold. A 50/50 drawing will benefit a scholarship in Kinsley Ard's memory. Kinsley was a member of Weir High's Class of 2012. The talent show began in 2009, and March 15 would have been her 19th birthday. Tax-deductible donations to the Kinsley S. Art Memorial Scholarship may be made by sending a check to: Kinsley S. Ard Memorial Talent Show, in care of Tina Viakley, 117 Sherry Court, Weirton, WV 26062.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. The event benefits the 2014 prom and senior events.
