HILL, Lester "Pete" Harold, born May 17, 1926, to Austin and Ruth (Pugh) Hill of New Manchester, passed away peacefully Monday morning at his home in New Manchester, WV.
Pete was a life-long member and elder of the Fairview Presbyterian church, a Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S. Saratoga during WWII, a 25-year member of the VFW Honor Guard, past member of the American Legion and Sheriff's Advisory Committee, serving six years as the chair, the Fairview Grange and an original member of the Hancock County Historical Society. He retired from Weirton Steel after 40 years of employment.
Pete was the embodiment of a John Wayne character: loyal to his family and country, a good provider, strong in his morals and character, and loved life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betti Lengyel Hill; his children, Ruthanne (George) Danford, Patricia Kirchner, Vikki (Phil) Roholt, Terri (Lee) Swearingen and Dr. Ted (Cami) Hill; grandchildren, Teresa Kirchner, Nicole, Tess, Jillian and Drew (Laura) Roholt, Jamie Swearingen (Jerry) Picciarelli, Whitney Hill (Zack) Whitehead, Lexi and Andrew Hill; great- grandchildren, Troy, Paxton and Maddox Whitehead.
Pete was poised and centered in Christ. He loved Jesus and read the Bible daily. He has gone home to be with the lord, where his mind is now peaceful and his body is perfect and whole.
Family will receive friends at the Turley Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Services will be there on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Brian Kilbert officiating. Military services and interment will follow in Union Cemetery, New Manchester, WV.
