Corina Mayo Barrow promoted to colonel

Corina Mayo Barrow, formerly of Steubenville, was promoted to the rank of colonel in a ceremony officiated by Maj. Gen. LaWarren V. Patterson at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga.

Barrow is a 1987 graduate of Steubenville High School and is the daughter of Charlene Mayo of Steubenville and the late Royal Mayo Jr. Barrow has served in the Army for more than 20 years. She is currently assigned as chief of nursing administration and inpatient services at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Barrow holds a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati, a dual master's degree in nursing informatics and nursing administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in national resource strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

She also is a graduate of the Army medical department officer's basic and advance courses, the pediatric nursing specialty course, head nurse court, advance nurse leadership course, joint operations medical managers course, military medical humanitarian assistance course, combined Army Services Staff School, Army Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Barrow's previous positions include staff nurse on a pediatric ward and in the newborn nursery at Winn Army Community Hospital, Fort Stewart, Ga.; staff nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric instructor at the practical nurse course at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas; ROTC brigade nurse counselor, 3rd Brigade, 4th Region Army Cadet Command; and head nurse of a 36-bed mother-bay unit and nurse educator for hospital education at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Barrow is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the National Black Nurses Association. She participated in the Army Training with Industry Program as a human fellow in Miramar, Fla. She served as the 2010 Military Nurse Fellow for U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, and as the executive staff officer in the office of the chief of the Army Nurse Corps.

Barrow's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4), the Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal (2), the National Defense Service Medal (2), the Global Way on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Barrow and her husband, Robert, are the parents of two children, Robert Jr. and Trinity.
