WINTERSVILLE - The windows of 24 businesses or organizations in Jefferson County were decorated this past week to emphasize the 4-H organization is going strong and will remain strong in the area.

Ohio 4-H Week was celebrated Sunday through today.

"This was a good representation of the group, as 24 of the 29 clubs in the county chose to show pride in their clubs with art," said Janine Yeske, county 4-H educator. "They all emphasized the organization and its members are going strong."

DECORATING STORE FRONTS — The Steubenville Spirits 4-H Club was one of 24 Jefferson County 4-H Clubs participating in Ohio 4-H Week Sunday through today by decorating a business’ or organization’s window somewhere in the county.

Winners entries used the American flag, the character of Popeye, the story of "The Hare and Tortoise," a race track with runners, Spiderman, Chris Clover and NASCAR.

The Top 10 clubs were:

American Outbackers, displaying at the Goucher Hotel in Toronto; Backwoods Gang, Stuff with Attitude in Wintersville; Barshoe Wranglers, Nails Charm; Boots and Britches, Smithfield Hardware; Country Kids, Dillonvale Landmark; Friends and Neighbors, Dove Restaurant; Golden Horseshoe, Spanky's Restaurant; Purple Circle, East Springfield Post Office; Warren Ridge, Serenity Hair; and Windy Ridge, Harrisville Fire House.

The Boots and Britches 4-H Club is a new club this year. The Barshoe Wranglers, Country Kids, Golden Horseshoe, Purple Circle, Warren Ridge Wranglers and Windy Ridge clubs are long established organizations, it was noted.

Another 4-H event will be the Iron Chef Clinic slated on March 16, when 29 entries have been registered to compete in the sandwich category, where main dish, appetizer and dessert sandwiches are to be made and displayed.

Along with the judging of each club's culinary efforts, there will be classes on nutrition, including tasting and voting on the top green vegetables served and the top five types of breads and spreads, according to Yeske.
