Tribute to a friend

March 17, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

To the Editor,

Jim Bloomer and I met at a Weircrest bus stop in the winter of 1960 on the way to our jobs at the then Weirton Steel Company when it was feasible to use the transit system. We forged a unique and genuine friendship through the years until his passing on Feb. 1, 2013.

With a smile on my face I can say he was unique and stubborn but also sincere. I wish I could count the times I told him, "you are a piece of work," or "they threw your mold away."

There are many Halls of Fame. Pro football, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc. Also college, high school, city and others. How about a Life's Hall of Fame? Jim Bloomer would definitely qualify. A good husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law, father-in-law, co-worker, neighbor, friend to many and like a brother to a few of us. And most important, he was simply a good person in his own life.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 11:35 a.m., with his family and friends present and Andreas Bocelli's musical version of the Lord's Prayer in the background, James E. (Jimmy) Bloomer was inducted into Life's Hall of Fame.

Rest in peace, my friend.
