Vietnam Veterans honored at

program Saturday at fort

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - AMVETS Post 275 will hold a Vietnam Veterans Day Program at 11 a.m. Saturday at Historic Fort Steuben.

U.S. Marine Sgt. Jack Ernest, a local veteran, will be the guest speaker. Coffee and cookies at the fort will immediately follow the program.

Management club to meet

WEIRTON - The Weirton Steel Management Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Giovanni's Restaurant's banquet room.

All members and former members are invited to attend. Dinner and a social will be enjoyed.

Holy Week services set

WEIRTON - Shiloh Apostolic Faith Church will hold special Holy Week services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the church located at 3000 Weir Ave.

Bishop Fred C. Williams of Bethany Refuge Empowerment Ministries in Mobile, Ala., will be the guest speaker. He also will speak Wednesday and Good Friday, March 29.

Library holding workshop

WEIRTON - The Mary H. Weir Public Library will present a workshop on changes to the Overdrive software used by the WVDeli Consortium for downloadable books and media at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the library located on Main Street.

The workshop will focus on e-books and topics include improvement in functionality, making selecting books easier; downloading books to a Nook or tablet without a computer; and reading books on a web-enabled device without downloading.

WVU Extension offers gardening tips

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County West Virginia University Extension Service will hold a series of gardening workshops at 6 p.m. Thursdays at Brooke Hills Park.

At the first, to be held Thursday, Extension Specialist Lewis Jett will discuss making the most use of the WVU Garden Calendar.

On April 4, Ohio County Extension agent John Miller will discuss using raised beds in home gardens.

On April 11, Pleasant County Extension agent Claude Marra will discuss soil conservation and soil sciences, including understanding a soil test report and improving soil's quality for flower beds and other gardens.

On April 18, Brooke County Extension agent Norm Schwertfeger will discuss successful home gardening techniques. Participants also are encouraged to bring plants or seeds they would like to trade.

A $5 donation is requested. Those interested in attending should register by phone, (304) 737-3666, or online at BrookeCountyExtension@mail.wvu. edu.

The WVU Extension Service has a number of helpful resources about gardening and agriculture. They range from the online Gardening 101 series to specific information about pests, soil, bees and other topics found at www.anr.ext.wvu.edu.

The 2013 WVU Extension Service Garden Calendar, a growing guide and a varieties guide also can be downloaded from the same site.

Church holding egg hunt

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - The Harmon Creek Community Church will host its annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. March 30 at the church located at 1080 Steubenville Pike.

The hunt will include age-appropriate categories, including toddler and preschool, lower and upper elementary, youth and adults.

All are welcome.

Event to promote organ donation

FOLLANSBEE - James Funeral Home will host the second Gift of Life Awareness Event held by the Center for Organ Recovery and Education at 4 p.m. April 1.

A representative of the center will be on hand to discuss organ donation, and an organ recipient will be on hand to comment. In observance of Organ Donation Month, green lights will be shown on the funeral home throughout April.

Church holding vendor night

WEIRTON - The Marland Heights Community Church will hold an annual vendors night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 5 at the church located at 3900 Bright Way.

Mary Kay, Tastefully Simple, Avon and homemade jewelry, totes, baked goods, magnets, key chains and baby blankets will be available. Food also will be available.
